Dreamgirls Play footage
| This is a segment on Jennifer Holliday from CBS. Tere are some excellent clips of the Original DREAMGIRLS play which is the main reason why I'm posting it. Why didn't they record the play? It hurts my heart knowing there is no professional recording of the original play. Sad. Anyway, check it out. |

Theres a proffesional recording but it's in miechal bennets estate.
As someone said above, there is a recording of the play, but it is locked away and VERY hard to get permission to view. Why? I don't know ...
What a bitter woman. It is so obvious she is jealous and can't comprehend that she is almost 50 years old and she cannot be Effie anymore. She had her time 25 years ago, let someone else!

Hey there.
Im an actor in NYC and this is my favorite show ever.. i saw the original.. there is a copy of the original play at the lincoln center library. there are archive tapes of quite a few shows there.. of course you have to make an appt to view and say your a director or something like that to view them.. There is a copy of dreamgirls in the archives.. however it is near the end of the run and the amazing Jennifer holliday is not in it..
but still amazing to see
Jen Holiday should be so proud on many levels. Do you think its a coincidence that they picked someone with the same initials? Someone who has the same power and drive to sing as the original stage play? I've seen the original which I actually have (smile) and I believe that j. Hudson took a lot from J holidays performance, but just took it to the next level (more new school) without compromising the initial stage play. J. Holiday forgets that she won many awards in the 80's.. She won the equivalent of a Oscar (tony) and a grammy for her rendition. On the other hand, we have to always remember that others have paid the way for the stars of today. Kudos to J. Hudson for remembering Ms. Holiday in one of her acceptance speeches. J. Hudson is a sweet sweet lady. I saw her in church the sunday before the Oscars and she is sincere in her love for God to! J. Holiday had her time, this is J. Hudsons time..and she's wearing it well.
