And I am Telling You I'm Not Going..

E! has announced that Jennifer Holliday will be singing THE song on the E! Oscar Red Carpet Special. I'm a little perplexed by it but I guess it's all good. What do you all think about Jennifer Holliday singing on the red carpet at the Oscars?

Speaking of Effie, Jennifer Hudson won a BAFTA on Monday (happy Darren?). I'm a little late with the news but I've been busy. Anyway, the BAFTA is the British equivalent of an Oscar. So congrats to Jennifer on her win. No one can steal her shine right now, not even Holliday. The girl is doing big things!

not going to lie it makes me really mad that she's doing that, gr holliday is a big ol' -----, Maybe it's because i'm to big of a J hud fan, but holliday just doesn't do it for me anymore, yes she blew me away when i first heard of dreamgirls but now that i hear j-hud sing it i'm just more into her, but she's like the Holliday of my generation i guess, but unlike holliday J-hud will have a huge career

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:59 AM) :

If Jennifer Holiday is performing than what will J-Hud be singing?

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:25 PM) :

she didnt win the BAFTA a couple of weeks ago it was on Monday!

Vogue could have pull a pic. like this one!!!I know they were trying to make it look like she was getting the last laught but hmmmmm, at least we know that she can pose.

I think that it is absolutely ridiculous that J Holliday is singing...she is just trying to get back into the spotlight...its all good b/c Jennifer Hudson will still be singing "I Love you I Do" at the Oscars too...

As for Jennifer Holliday...she needs to grow up and get her own spotlight....

Darren I can't keep up with Jennifer's awards. She's winning something like every week so dismiss my error. It will be corrected.

It seems to me that Ms Holliday is pulling a "sour grapes" on us. I love her, and I definitely think she has a right to be remembered for the role...but, there is also a time to step aside and let the new generation shine with it. Jennifer Holliday had her chance with Effie 25 years ago...and there was no one there taking her spotlight. So...she needs to get out of Jennifer Hudson's!!! But...I do say there is no cause for any of us to be hating on Ms Holliday. Diana Ross is doing the same thing, and riding this movie back into the spotlight.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 AM) :

I think that Ms. Holliday should figure out how to move on, and then do so. I think it's pathetic that after 25 years, she's trying to steal the thunder of a young actress young enough to be her daughter.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 AM) :

Holliday was and always will be Effie. She had her glory 25 years ago. Can she please move on? If she does that, she's being ridiculous. This is Hudson's movie, not hers.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:40 PM) :

I'm against the idea that J. Holliday could sing on the red carpet, she's out, WELCOME JHud!!!

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:43 PM) :

Well, lets all look at the good side. At least Holliday is singing at the Red Carpet Event, and not inside, during the actual Academy Awards Show...most people will be watching the awards show, not the red-carpet stuff...

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 PM) :

    Thanks anonymous 3:43pm.
JHolliday will sing "And I'm telling you I'M NOT GOING." The thing is she's NOT GOING INSIDE the auditorium.
Sadly she'll stay on the red carpet.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 PM) :

Agreed. While I have much respect for Holiday...This is Jennifer's time to shine and it as if she (Holiday) is desperate for the spotlight....A shame.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 AM) :

Desperate actions from a desperate has-been wanting attention for herself. Pathetic, sad Holliday.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:24 AM) :

To be fair...it seems Jennifer Holliday was never approached by Bill Condon or anyone else involved with the DREAMGIRLS movie to be involved with it somehow:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamgirls_%28film%29#Critical_and_celebrity_reaction

And yet, there were plenty of DREAMGIRLS alumni in the film. So I don't quite blame her for being a diva now and being Effie to the hilt. Chances are, people who don't know much about DREAMGIRLS, aside from the movie, think Ms. Holliday must've been dead all this time if she hasn't shown her face in the midst of all the DREAMGIRLS buzz lately.

On the other hand, it's completely unfair to attempt to steal JHud's thunder like this. :( It's too bad that Jennifer Holliday basically turned into a one-trick pony, with her only real claim to fame being DREAMGIRLS, and Jennifer Hudson is getting all the attention that she could've gotten back in the day with that voice of hers. She's got a LOT more talent than that and doesn't deserve to be treated as if being Effie or singing THE song is all she's capable of doing. But...this is the way things have turned out, unfortunately. It's really too bad that Jennifer Holliday couldn't have figured out some other way to come out and show she exists.... :(

When I heard Jennifer Holiday sang AIATY, I became an instant fan. When Jennifer Hudson was on AI, she reminded me of a young Jennifer Hoilday. I was sad she lost, but was okay with Fantaisa winning.

And when I heard JHUD was going to do Dreamgirls.First thought came to mind. How happy Jennifer Hoilday will be, that someone came along to reprise her role and the song she sung.

With that being said, I have loss respect for her.

If all she wants is to be remebered as Effie White and AIATY, then let her. JHUD has already stated she wants to move to other things.

JHUD's light shines even brighter than before and Jennifer Holiday will fade in the past with "her song".

Yes....Holliday needs to step off and get a life...

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:41 PM) :

Why is it that you people hate to give CREDIT to the people w ho came before us.If it wasn't for Jennifer Holiday, half of you people wouldn't know about that song that help Jennifer Hudson get so many awards.I am a musician and I also give credit to the "ORGINALS"First!I love Jennifer Hudson she did a great job on the screen and on the wax,However you people needs to give credit to The Original,Jennifer Hudson DOES!

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:19 PM) :

We are against the whole idea simply because the whole idea is stupid....Jennifer Holliday had her chance...she already had her chance to get the spotlight and fame...and now that Jennifer Hudson is getting the spotlight, Holliday is trying to reclaim the same role as she did years ago...there is a time and a season for everything...and her (Holliday's) season has passed...she needs to step aside and let someone else have a chance...she is trying to relive her youth from someone else's glory, and that is just plain wrong...wrong and cetainly childish....step off and move on with your life...

Jennifer Hollidays is sooo lame for trying to resurect her character....its been 25 years...she needs to find a new avenue for success and stop trying to use that same tired out Effie routine....its Hudson's turn...she needs to move on...

Id give Jennifer Holliday credit for being the one that set the mold for Effie, in terms of vocal power, but I recently read that she will reprise her role of Effie in the new production of Dreamgirls, cashing in on the movie, I feel very sorry for her. Yes she had a powerful voice, but how is she going to play a 16 year old girl convincingly in the first part of the play coz she is wayyyyy beyond her years. After seeing Hudson on film, it will be a travesty, if Holliday couldnt relive her legend and perform subpar to Hudson's expressive Effie. It scares me.

    Blogger HumanAdult said ... (2:45 AM) :

Holliday should really use this opportunity to do other things, not compete with Hudson's shining performance in the movie. She should move on. And cherish her earlier glory. I dont think her performance, will ever be as good, she might be more powerful vocally..but acting wise? Hudson is definitely better..just watch Holliday's performance on Youtube and compare that to Hudson's sensitive potrayal of Effie. I dont think Ms. Holliday would be able to live that down.

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Has she lost her mind? She way too old to be Effie right now!

    Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:02 AM) :

Holliday is a great talent, BUT her attitude towards this whole thing is totally ridiculous. Holliday, wake up! This is not 1981 anymore, 25 long years have passed, and you are not young anymore. Use your god given talents and do something else!
Do you think people are not going to laugh if you "reprised" your role of Effie? Lady, go home and take your medication!

Okay, you people seriously make me sick.

Jennifer Hudson is good, I'm not denying that, so don't start shouting about how good she is, or if she's better than Jennifer Holliday. That's not the point.

The point is music - in particular, modern R&B/hip-hop/soul music - has had a long-standing history of giving full credit to the people that's come before, because without those people, these songs would not exist. Jennifer Hudson and other singers like her would be NOTHING if they didn't have people like Jennifer Holliday to model themselves after.

So when you're listening to "JHud" and Beyonce and every other young black girl singing, you'd better bet that she's listened to, and stolen more than a few tricks, from the greats - Tina, Aretha, Jennifer Holliday, Diana Ross - so on and so forth.

"She needs to shrivel up and die", "she's a has-been" etcetera - such fucked up comments, about one of many black female performers who were essentially ROBBED - underpaid, treated ill, and didn't have the opportunities that females like Hudson have today. But you can bet that Hudson would not have the opportunities she has today if not for women like Jennifer Holliday.

And the fact that she wasn't approached at ALL for any sort of reference or involvement in the movie is just as sickening. Holliday could've played this in a different way - a better way - but the woman was snubbed in an unforgivable way.

Whether or not you want to believe it, Jennifer Holliday made that song what it is, and Jennifer Hudson would be nothing without the singers that came before her, including the amazing Jennifer Holliday. And if you deny that, you're as dumb as all of your comments are making you sound.

I bet you'd never, ever, EVER hear Jennifer Hudson herself saying that kind of shit about Holliday. N E V E R .

    UGH.

And way to go, black community, for failing to honor one of your own. No wonder it's so hard for any of us to get anywhere, when we can tear down someone who contributed so much, so viciously.
